“As high a power gathering as I can recall” Whateley – SportNXT

“As high a power gathering as I can recall” Whateley

Thursday March 10

Sports futurist, SportNXT curator and speaker Scott Dinsdale joined Gerard Whateley this morning on SEN to discuss next month’s SportNXT summit.

Whatelely expressed his excitement on the prospect of SportNXT bringing together over fifty of Australia’s and the world’s most predominant industry leaders to discuss the topical issues and opportunities in sport during F1 GP week.

“It is as high a power gathering as I can recall in this city (Melbourne), to contemplate the issues confronting sport right now and particularly what the next decade and beyond may look like”.

Dinsdale who describes “sport as such a key element of Australian culture”, has developed the agenda for SportNXT including matters such as the acceleration of women’s sport, charting success in the new world post COVID, sport and media in 2030, and the rise of Asia in the industry.

SportNXT, a summit that has been in the works since 2019 will look through the lens of the future for sport in Australia on a global and regional scale.

“Our conversations are focused on the future. What do the next five to ten years look like in sport? What are the key challenges and opportunities?”, said Dinsdale.

“We expect this to be quite the gathering of local sport leaders as well as international.”

Dinsdale is eager to hear about the futuristic insights of NBA commissioner Adam Silver, Megan Rapinoe’s future during the twilight of her illustrious soccer career, and the discussion on the global politics sport climate with World Athletics President Lord Sebastian Coe.

However, Dinsdale is particularly drawn to SportNXT exploring the potential of cryptocurrency and Web3 in the future of sport and digital fan engagement.

“The idea of really creating the next generation of media products through NFT’s, the next generation of fandom and loyalty through tokens. I think there is an enormously exciting future”,

“We’ll look back ten years from now and be shocked at how transformational it has been for sport as well as other sectors.”
